Is the weather outside frightful? Please review this important information regarding winter weather!
    • A studio (whether it's your teacher's studio or a company studio) will CLOSE if the county in which it is located is on a level 3 snow emergency (meaning, it is illegal to drive). Otherwise, it is open. If it closes, it will reopen within 2 hours of the level 3 emergency being lifted in that county.
    • If your driveway or roadways leading to your home are not passable for your teacher to get to your home for an in home lesson, please call him/her and let him/her know at least 2 hours before the lesson. The teacher will do the same if you are going to the teacher's studio. Remember, press # for the dial-by-name directory if you do not know their extension.
Bottom line ... please communicate with your teacher! We certainly understand that weather issues happen, and we will all work together to make a reasonable attempt to be sure you receive any lessons that need to be rescheduled. The most important thing is that our employees and client members are safe. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

Please also watch your local NBC, ABC and CBS news stations and their web sites for announcements of our closures or delays. We will post information on the page of your location if we close in your area.

The Piano, Guitar or Violin Exploration Classes are a wonderful opportunity to try out the the piano, violin or guitar! This 7 week class meets for 1 hour each week starting the week of January 29, 2012 (ending by March 17). Non-refundable tuition is $115 per student, due at the time of registration.

    Ages: Piano 3-10yo / Violin 3-10yo / Guitar 5-12yo

In the first 6 weeks of the class, we accomplish much of what would be learned in the first 6 private lessons; however, this is in a group setting. The 7th week is a mini-recital at the studio where we show you all we have done! Each student performs, as well.

Classes are 1 hour each week and are scheduled as follows:

         PIANO:
              Saturdays 1pm (ages 3-5 and 6-10)
              Wednesdays 6pm (ages 3-5 and 6-10)

         VIOLIN:
              Sundays 230pm (ages 3-5 only)
              Sundays 330pm (ages 6-10 only)

         GUITAR:
              Tuesdays 6pm (ages 5-7)
              Tuesdays 7pm (ages 8-12)
              Saturdays 2pm (ages 5-7)
              Saturdays 3pm (ages 8-12)

How do you decide between private lessons or a group class?
    • If you cannot make the group class schedule, it's no problem. Most of our students do not start off with the group class, so you are welcome to go right in to private lessons where we will schedule lessons based on your availability.
    • If your child is intimidated easily or is timid, private lessons are best so that there are not other students watching.
    • If your child enjoys learning in a group, group lessons are best for the social component.
    • If your child has a difficult time focusing, private lessons are best so that we can keep him/her focused more easily.
    • If your child often moves more quickly or more slowly than the pace of other groups in which he/she has participated, private lessons are best so that we can move at the pace of your child.
    • If you are interested in the piano exploration class, do not have a piano and are not willing to rent/lease a piano or purchase a keyboard, the group class is best since no practicing is required in between classes.
Violin and guitar exploration participants must have size appropriate instruments.
If you have more questions about the classes, just give us a call at 888.861.MUSIC / 614.413.7676 (prompt 1) or email Columbus@TheMusicLessonsCompany.com.

The Instrument Petting Zoo is a great opportunity to try out the piano, violin AND the guitar in a 30-minute group class for 4 consecutive weeks! There is no practicing in between, and we provide the instruments.

    Tuition
Non-refundable tuition is $50 per student, due at the time of registration.

    Class Objectives
The objective of this class is to provide exposure to 3 different instruments so that students can select which instrument they most like. The equivalent of approximately 2 private lessons of knowledge and information is covered in this 4 week class.

    Schedule
    There are 2 winter times:
    • Sundays, 1-130pm or 130-2pm, February 12 - March 4, 2012
    • Tuesday, 5-530pm or 530-6pm, February 14 - March 6, 2012
    Ages
Students are divided by age. The earlier time will be for 3-5yo children. The later time will be for 6-8yo children.

How do you decide between private lessons or a group class?
    • If your child is intimidated easily or is timid, private lessons are best so that there are not other students watching.
    • If your child enjoys learning in a group, group lessons are best for the social component.
    • If your child truly is undecided on which instrument to pursue, this class will provide exposure to help in that decision.
    • If your child has a difficult time focusing, private lessons are best so that we can keep him/her focused more easily.
    • If your child often moves more quickly or more slowly than the pace of other groups in which he/she has participated, private lessons are best so that we can move at the pace of your child.
    • If you are interested in music lessons but do not want to rent or purchase an instrument yet, this class will provide basic exposure to the instrument so that you can evaluate your child's interest.
If you have more questions about the classes, just give us a call at 888.861.MUSIC / 614.413.7676 (prompt 1) or email Columbus@TheMusicLessonsCompany.com. Please register no later than February 10. If the class is full, the web site will not accept registration.

In the first week of even-numbered months, we offer Performance Classes for all students during their regular private lesson. These classes start on the :00 and :30 of every hour, every day all week, and last approximately 15-30 minutes. These classes are no additional charge and take the place of the private lesson for the week, but the student will return to the private lesson if the group class ends early. Parents or adult students may opt-out simply by informing their teacher at the lesson. Clients who have their lesson in-home are welcome to come in to the studio during their lesson time to participate in the class- simply notify your teacher in advance.

These classes are available in locations where The Music Lessons Company has a physical studio. You are welcome to call us to confirm the location in your area.

What should you do to prepare?
    • Bring 1 song to play, and play either an excerpt or entire piece that is well-prepared. This could mean even just the right hand of a piece, but it should be something that the student can get through well.
    • Songs do not need to be from memory, but certainly may be.
What do we do in the class?
    • Students learn how to walk up on stage, perform with their instrument and bow. Children in the audience also learn how to be a good audience, which is something that takes some practice, as well!
    • We encourage everyone, regardless of how the performance goes. This is a positive atmosphere for the students. This is based on the Suzuki philosophy of encouraging students to perform and share their music with others.
    • Students are able to listen to other students who are less and more advanced than they. This provides the opportunity to see where their music can take them, and also remind them of how far they have come.
    • When necessary, the teacher may coach or assist the student.
What are the benefits of this class?
    • Students learn how to handle themselves on stage which helps prepare them for recitals, talent shows at school and other performance opportunities.
    • The nerves that come with performing can be slowly worked out, so that students feel more comfortable sharing their music in front of others.
    • For the business world, feeling comfortable in front of an audience is vital. These are skills that students can carry in to adulthood and their professional lives!
    • Students are able to hear students who are more and less advanced than they are, encouraging students to see what they can achieve and what they have already accomplished.
    • Social aspects of any activity are important, and this class offers an opportunity for kids to meet other students. For those who wish to do duets or ensemble activities, this can be helpful.
    Who can come?
    • Parents and families are welcome to attend to sit in the audience.
    • Students of any level, instrument or age may participate.
    Other notes:
    • This is not a recital. Students may wear comfortable attire, and there are not any programs, certificates or other formal items handed out.
    • Students should bring their instrument (we provide a grand piano), music and accessories. We provide music stands and seating.
    • The class will not run any longer than the student's private lesson. If you are dropping off a student, please assume that the class will be over by the normal private lesson end time.
    • There may be 1-15 students in the class, depending on the time of day and how many students participate. Even if there is only 1 child, we will still have the class.
